Hi Everyone! How was your week 11/52?

Goal #1: Manage My Eating Disorder
β (1) Goal met in eating between 1200 to 1700 calories during the hours of 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM for Week 11/52.
I’m incredibly happy that I had a full week where the bar is green. It’s likely the first time it has happened in almost a year!
Going forward, I would like to understand what I value more, the joy that comes from having the apple being green every day. Or the pleasure derived from the extra food I get to eat?

Goal #2: Become more organized starting Week 2/52
β (2) Goal accomplished in spending 15 to 30 minutes organizing every day using a timer for Week 11/52.
I look forward to becoming an organized person one day. I imagine it to be living in a space filled with relaxation.
Goal #3: Write consistently
β (3) Goal accomplished in writing between 2 to 8 hours every day for Week 11/52.
Goal #4: Read books to gain knowledge and new perspectives
β (4a) Goal accomplished in reading 30 minutes a day for 5 days for Week 11/52. Currently, I’m reading Elizabeth Gilbert’s The Signature of All Things and Morgan Housel’s The Psychology of Money. Great reads!
π§ (4b) Goal in progress: I will review 6 books in 2022 and post them on this blog.
Book 1/6: Maybe You Should Talk to Someone
Book 2/6: If I Had Your Face
Book 3/6: Atomic Habits
Thinking of reviewing The Signature of All Things, The Aesthetics of Joy, or the Psychology of Money for Book 4/6.
Goal #5: Improve my listening skills
β (5a) Goal accomplished in listening to one Design Matters Podcast for Week 11/52. This week, I listened to Debbie Millman interview Richard Saul Wurman, founder of TED.
I found it fascinating to listen to two incredibly articulate people who both hold strong opinions having an uncomfortable and difficult conversation that gave me clarity on how to organize and ask good questions.
On organization: Richard states there are basically 5 ways to organize information and called it LATCH. Location, Alphabet, Time, Category, and Hierarchy. I find Anton Nikolov’s blog post to be a clear way of describing LATCH.
So I think a good question is a creative act that leads to an epiphany, a clarity.

β (5b) Goal accomplished in listening to one TED talk for Week 11/52. This week I listened to The price of shame | Monica Lewinsky.
But online, technologically enhanced shaming is amplified, uncontained, and permanently accessible. The echo of embarrassment used to extend only as far as your family, village, school or community…There is a very personal price to public humiliation and the growth of the internet has jacked up the price.

Goal #6: Emulate Krista Tippetβs (Winner of the National Humanities Medal, Peabody Awards, Webby Awards) way of speaking.
β (6) Goal accomplished in emulating a sentence of Krista Tippet’s for Week 11/52 from this Design Matters Podcast.
Goal #7: Learn how to grow microgreens from Mark starting 6/1/2022 (Week 22/52)
π(7) Goal N/A for Week 11/52.

Goal #1: Maintain my mental and physical health
β (1a) Goal accomplished in singing two positive songs and one song of my choice every day for Week 11/52.
β (1b) Goal accomplished in meditating and practicing 25 minutes of yoga 5 to 7 days for Week 11/52.
β (1c) Goal accomplished for lifting weights 3 to 5 days a week for Week 11/52.
β (1d) Goal accomplished in doing a physical activity for Week 11/52.
I did a 1-hour speed walk inside the American Dream Mall this week.

β (1e) Goal not accomplished in sleeping before 11:30 PM every day for Week 11/52.
Goal #2: Work on my marriage
β (2a) Goal accomplished in continuing my weekly marriage meeting (#189), financial checkup, and date night with Mark for Week 11/52.
There was one instance of me reverting back to pre-2017 Kelly and gave Mark unsolicited advice when we played the board game El Grande with other board gamers this past Saturday. I woke up at 3am Sunday morning with the realization and apologized to Mark first thing in the morning. It seems that I still need regular introspections to keep my former dysfunctional habits from reappearing.
β (2b) Goal accomplished in helping Mark organize for 15-30 minutes every day this past week for Week 11/52.
Goal #3: Encourage my mom to expand her worldview starting Week 11/52
β (3a) Goal accomplished in teaching my mom English for Week 11/52.
β (3b) Goal accomplished in practicing Senior Yoga with my mom for Week 11/52.
β (3c) Goal accomplished in teaching my mom how to become more proficient at using her iPhone for Week 11/52.
My mom started composing her own sentences in English this week! She first composed her sentences in Chinese and then translated them herself into English. I asked her to write 3 sentences about how we celebrated her birthday this year.
She wrote, “Today we goto American Dream Mall. American Dream Mall is in New Jersey. Today for lunch I eat German beef sandwich and Italian Spinach and Cheese bread. Then for dessert, I eat Italian Lobster Tail.”
Goal #4: Prioritize friendships
β (4a) Goal accomplished in meeting up with friends 1 to 3 times a month for Week 11/52. I had a delightful conversation with Sure Sure. I also played Password with Sure Sure, Brink, and Mark.
Mark and I also went to Dr. Finn’s board game night and had lots of fun playing:
- El Grande, one of Steve Finnβs favorites. It was my first time playing and I came in 4th place out of 5 players. Steve won by one point against another great player.
- For the King (and Me)/Biblios, a game Steve Finn created. It was also my first time playing and I surprisingly came in first by one point and Steve came in second out of 5 players. I felt like I unlocked the life experience, winning once against the game creator. π

β (4b) Goal accomplished in chatting with 1 to 3 friends over the phone/zoom for Week 11/52. I had a deeply analytical conversation with Maverick.
Goal #5: Remember my late father through cooking starting Week 9/52 on 3/3 (my father’s birthday).
β (5) Goal accomplished in posting one recipe on this site for Week 11/52, Easy Ramen Eggs.

Dear readers, how was your progression towards your 2022 goals? π
95% completion this week, thanks to a refresh on the schedule!
I remember Monica Lewinsky being crucified daily by Jay Leno on The Tonight Show. Looking back on it, the jokes were so callous and so very cruel. Now I realize that Jay Leno is not a very nice person at all. He could be very successful during his career, but he’s not historically on the right side.
I find Monica incredibly brave to speak out about this painful part in her past that has been magnified on a world stage.
