Hi Everyone…This week was an emotionally difficult week. Mark’s father entered Hospice care and I will try my best to support Mark.

Goal #1: Manage My Eating Disorder
β (1) Goal met in eating between 1200 to 1700 calories during the hours of 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM for Week 7/52.

Goal #2: Become more organized starting Week 2/52
β (2) Goal accomplished in spending 15 to 30 minutes organizing every day using a timer for Week 7/52.

Goal #4: Read books to gain knowledge and new perspectives
β (4a) Goal accomplished in reading 30 minutes a day for 5 days for Week 7/52. I’m reading Shelley Parker-Chan’s She Who Became the Sun. It’s a reimagining of the rise of the founding emperor of the Ming Dynasty. It’s not a book I’d usually read because it’s has a lot of death and mass killings.
π§ (4b) Goal in progress: I will summarize/review 6 books in 2022 and post them on this blog.
Book 1/6: Maybe You Should Talk to Someone
Book 2/6: If I Had Your Face
Currently in the process of summarizing Atomic Habits for Book 3/6.
Goal #5: Improve my listening skills
β (5a) Goal accomplished in listening to one Design Matters Podcast for Week 7/52. This week, I listened to Debbie Millman interview Lisa Taddeo (author of Three Women).
[Quote from Three Women]: Some of the women expressed frustration that Lena had a home, a husband who provided for her, and healthy children, they were angry she wanted more.
Lisa Taddeo, Design Matters with Debbie Millman
Lisa’s words made me think of my mother and Aunt Coffee who used to be frustrated with me for wanting to pursue a career I love. They would make comments like, “You have enough. Stop chasing after things that are not going to materialize.”
β (5b) Goal accomplished in listening to one TED talk for Week 7/52. This week I listened to Your body language may shape who you are | Amy Cuddy (American social psychologist).
So this is two minutes, two minutes, two minutes. Before you go into the next stressful evaluative situation, trying doing this [“Power Pose” You stand tall with your chest out and your hands on your hips.]
Amy Cuddy: Your body language may shape who you are | TED
I first heard of the “Power Pose” in 2017 from Caroline Paul author of Gutsy Girl. I so admired Caroline’s bravery that I took her advice of doing the “Power Pose” every day. I’d like to believe it played a part in me having much more courage now than before.
Goal #6: Emulate Krista Tippetβs (Winner of the National Humanities Medal, Peabody Awards, Webby Awards) way of speaking.
β (6) Goal accomplished in emulating a sentence of Krista Tippet’s for Week 7/52 from this Design Matters Podcast.

Dear readers, how was your progression towards your 2022 goals? π
85% completion this week. Surprised that I even made that much progress, given the bad news this week.
I admire your continued effort in maintaining a healthy, productive, encouraging, and mutual relationship with your mom. It is something that I can have as a model to emulate.
85% average is my goal for the year. π
About 6 months after my father passed, my mom told me she realizes how she likely raised me incorrectly. I think part of the reason she now earnestly learns English every day now is to show me through action how she is different from who she used to be. That in conjunction with her no longer objecting to me becoming a writer has smoothed our relationship greatly.
Seeing how you deal with things, whether happy or sad, gives me the courage and strength to face my challenges. Phoenix, youβre an inspiration!
Wishing you strength in facing your challenges! π
