Hi everyone! Time for Goal Check Sunday! π

Goal #1: Manage My Eating Disorder
β (1) Goal accomplished in eating between 1200 to 1700 calories during the hours of 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM for this week.

Goal #2: Become more organized starting Week 2/52
π(2) Goal N/A for Week 1/52. I’m both hopeful and fearful of this goal. I’m disorganized and I’ve been able to hide it from nearly everyone except Mark. I hide it so well that even my mom thinks I’m now organized.
I’m really hoping the 15 to 30 minutes I will spend organizing daily starting next week will help me become organized and stay organized!
Goal #3: Write consistently
β (3) Goal accomplished in writing between 2 to 8 hours every day this week. In the past, I was able to do this consistently for about 4-6 weeks before I started skipping weeks. 2022 WILL be different because I now have dedicated time blocks set aside specifically for writing without interruptions or distractions. Additionally, I’ve also started listening to lo-fi music when writing in hopes of training my brain to associate lo-fi music with writing.
Goal #4: Read books to gain knowledge and new perspectives
β (4a) Goal accomplished in reading 30 minutes a day for 5 days this week.
Color pulls joy to the surface. Why do some cultures reserve color only for celebratory moments, while others make it a part of the everyday?
Ingrid Fetell Lee, Joyful
Ingrid thinks that Western society has a deep cultural bias that is inclined towards sophistication and not towards joy. She quotes Johann Wolfgang von Goethe who wrote in 1810 that “savage nations, uneducated people, and children have a great predilection for vivid colors,” but that “people of refinement avoid vivid colors in their dress and the objects that are about them, and seem inclined to banish them altogether from their presence.”
π§(4b) Goal in progress: I will summarize 6 books and post them on this blog.
Goal #5: Improve my listening skills
β (5a) Goal accomplished in listening to one Design Matters Podcast. This week, I listened to Debbie Millman interview Krista Tippet and it became one of my all-time favorite podcasts!
I’m enchanted by Krista’s voice. It’s sunny, serene, and soothing. I’m even more impressed by her ability to talk about controversial subjects like religion in a non-confrontational and non-negative way.
β (5b) Every week, I will listen to one TED talk. This week I listened to How to speak so that people want to listen | Julian Treasure.
My thoughts: I don’t think Julian said one filler word like, “um” in his entire almost 10-minutes speech. Impressive!
Goal #6: Emulate Krista Tippetβs (Winner of the National Humanities Medal, Peabody Awards, Webby Awards) way of speaking
β (6) Goal accomplished in emulating a sentence of Krista Tippet’s for Week 1/52.
This week I practiced the way Krista gives what I think is a gentle way to tell Debbie she doesn’t like the way the question is being asked.
[4:02] Debbie: Krista, do you believe in God?
Krista: (gentle laughter) I never asked anyone that question, that way, by the way. You know that, right?
It’s Krista’s gentle tone, measured cadence, and casual delivery that make her words sound non-confrontational. If someone else were to say it, it would likely sound like a reprimand or attack.
Goal #7: Learn how to grow microgreens from Mark starting 6/1/2022 (Week 22/52)
π(7) Goal N/A for Week 1/52.

Goal #1: Maintain my mental and physical health
β (1a) Goal accomplished in singing two positive songs and one song of my choice.
β(1b) Goal not met for 5 to 7 days of mediation and practice 25 minutes of yoga. I forgot to meditate most of the week as it’s a new goal! I met the yoga practice goal but since they are tied together, this goal is not considered met.
π(1c) Goal N/A for lifting weights 3 to 5 days a week due to my strained neck.
β (1d) Goal accomplished in doing a physical activity for Week 1/52.
β (1e) Goal accomplished in sleeping before 11:30 PM every day.

Goal #2: Work on my marriage
β (2a) Goal accomplished in continuing my weekly marriage meetings, financial checkups, and date nights with Mark.
π(2b) Goal N/A in helping Mark organize for 15-30 minutes for Week 1/52.
Goal #3: Encourage my mom to expand her worldview starting Week 4/52
π(3a) Goal N/A of teaching my mom English for Week 1/52.
π(3b) Goal N/A of practicing Senior Yoga with my mom teaching my mom English for Week 1/52.
π(3c) Goal N/A of teaching my mom how to become more proficient at using her iPhone for Week 1/52.
Goal #4: Prioritize friendships
π(4a) Goal N/A of meeting up with friends 1 to 3 times a month due to Covid.
β (4b) Goal accomplished in chatting with 1 to 3 friends over the phone/zoom. Da-Logic and Nala for Week 1/52!
Goal #5: Remember my late father through cooking starting Week 9/52 on 3/3 (my father’s birthday).
π(5) Goal N/A of posting recipes on this site for Week 1/52.

This week’s completion percentage: 91% (11/12)
Dear readers, how was your progression towards your 2022 goals? π
Good to see you are kicking off the new year with continued Goal Check Sundays!
On organization – I don’t think you are disorganized. Perhaps you think so because it’s easy to see your flaws. I’ve noticed that when you continuously talk about organization, show people how to organize, and then display (a more or less) clean home and working space, people believe that you are organized. Once they have that image of you, it would take many infractions over a long period of time for them to believe otherwise.
On colors – On the surface, Goethe’s quote makes him seem like a bigot or an elitist. However, I read that he actually studied color quite a lot and wrote Theory of Colours in 1810 that described colored shadows, refraction, and chromatic aberration. The quote stems from his observations of each how specific color’s effect on our instincts/emotions/behaviors.
Hi!
I may give off the impression that I’m organized because our apartment is relatively uncluttered. But our more organized friends like Mulan would not say I’m organized. π
I think Goethe being knowledgeable about color does not preclude him from being a bigot or an elitist.
