On Monday 8/1/2022, I decided that going forward, I will meditate and exercise for about 50 minutes 5X a Week within 15 minutes of waking up and before breakfast.
I repeatedly tell myself and my friends that mental and physical health is my #1 priority. Except my past actions did not exactly reflect that belief. While I meditated and exercised 5X a week, it was never at the same time of the day and it was almost always with a sigh of resignation.
Many times it would even be late at night because I find ways to put it off. I don’t enjoy meditating and exercising as I’m doing it. I do, however, love the feeling directedly afterward and the long-time benefits (mood booster and strength) it brings!
To date after meditating and exercising regularly since 2017ish, I don’t remember ever saying, “I regret meditating and exercising today.” This is why I decided to embrace meditation and exercise.
Why I’m Determined to Embrace Meditation and Exercise Before Breakfast 5X a Week
- Having my actions match my beliefs. I strongly believe that mental and physical health is my #1 priority. Therefore, I will take action to meditate and exercise for about 50 minutes within 15 minutes of waking up.
- Curiosity. None of my family members or close friends do this even though a few of my role models do. I’m curious to know how will I change as a person by meditating and exercising regularly in the morning.
- I’m hoping meditating and exercising regularly in the morning will build grit. Other than my late father, everyone in my extended family lacked grit.
Grit is passion and perseverance for very long-term goals. Grit is having stamina. Grit is sticking with your future, day in, day out, not just for the week, not just for the month, but for years, and working really hard to make that future a reality.

Going forward I’m going to remind myself that every time I’m choosing to meditate and exercise for 50 within 15 minutes of waking up 5X a week is a vote for building grit. I will need passion and perseverance to accomplish my first goal of becoming a beloved writer and second goal of becoming a philanthropist.
